Funeral Ceremony Of Kanchi Math’s Jayendra Saraswathi
The ceremony of the last rites of the 69th Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati of Kanchi Kamakoti Peeth in Tamil Nadu has started. During this time Shankaracharya was anointed with milk and honey. Then Vedic havan and worship were done. Jayendra Saraswati will be conferred with the Maha Mahamad at the Brindavan Bhawan in Math. After his death on Wednesday, his body was kept in the Math, more than one lakh people visited Shankaracharya till Thursday morning.
Jayendra took over the throne of Kanchi Peeth for 65 years. He was admitted to the private hospital in Kanchipuram after chest pain. Where Jayendra Saraswati (83) got the last breath. Now Shankar will be replaced by Vijayendra Saraswati.
Monastery manager Sundaran told that the preparations for Shankaracharya’s Brindavan entrance (funeral) were done with Vedic law. This process will start at 8 a.m. and run till noon
Jayendra Saraswati was born on July 18, 1935 in Tamil Nadu. He was the 69th Shankaracharya of Kanchi Mutt. Jayendra became Shankaracharya in 1954. Earlier, his name was Subrahmanyan Mahadev Aiyar. He was declared the successor of Saraswati Swamigal. Then his age was only 19 years.
Jayendra Saraswati was arrested in the Shankar Raman murder case. However, he was acquitted later. In this case, Shankaracharya and his associates of Kanchimath were the main accused. There was Jayalalitha’s government in Tamil Nadu at that time. Jayalalitha used to think Jayendra Saraswati as her spiritual guru. At the time when Jayendra came to arrest the police, he was doing ‘Trikal Sandhya’.
